LM Overview

Two of Europe's most prominent and innovative engineering and construction companies - Laing O'Rourke and Murphy - have come together to form LM, a powerful joint venture, supporting the growing number of major transport infrastructure projects across the UK.

Both organisations are market leaders in high-speed rail delivery, tunnelling, bridge construction, civil engineering, offsite manufacturing and digital engineering.

LM, along with Fusion JV and CS JV, have been awarded the enabling works for High Speed Two. Delivering the essential early works will include archaeology, site clearance and setting up construction compounds - ahead of the start of the main civil engineering work.

The £900 million enabling works contracts cover the whole of Phase One, from London to Birmingham and the connection to the West Coast Main line at Handsacre in Staffordshire

Main purpose of role:

To support the Health Safety and Wellbeing Manager in the delivery of all matters relating to H,S&W and to work closely with work package delivery teams to ensure contractual, legislative and moral compliance with all HS&W requirements.

Key responsibilities and duties:

Role specific

- Advise and support Managers and Supervisors to discharge their responsibilities for the HS&W of employees and others to whom they have a duty as defined by Legislation and Company Procedures.
- Ensure that all personnel are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities, and to provide advice as and when required.
- Provide mentoring and coaching support to junior members of the team where required
- Act as an ambassador for best practice in HS&W at all times
- Support management teams to ensure compliance with all requirements stipulated in the HS&W Plans.
- Carry out regular inspections of sites and work places to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with Company Policy, Procedures and the relevant Statutory Provisions.
- Carry out accident/incident investigations in accordance with the Company procedure and, analysing all data, making recommendations to avoid any reoccurrences.
- Collate Business / Contract HS&W statistics in a timely manner and submit to the HS&W Management & HS&W function for reporting purposes.
- Review HS&W information to identify trends and areas for improvement. Develop and implement HS&W campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with the HS&W Management.
- Assist in the preparation & review of project HS&W documents including those of 3rd parties.
- Produce HS&W plans, procedures and associated documentation.
- Identify HS&W consents / permits or exemptions that are required and ensure they are obtained.
- Maintain records as necessary to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures and Contract Requirements.
- Provide reports, presentations and information as directed by the Business / HS&W Management.
- Carry out site induction training where required
- Support the Business / HS&W Management in the delivery of the Audit Programme.
- Stop work with the agreement of the HS&W / Site / Project Management at any time HS&W management of the works is in question.
- Participate in working groups / forums such as the SHELT as required.
- Participate in the work of committees and joint consultations affecting the workforce as required.
