Water Treatment Advisor
There are currently new exciting opportunities within Severn's Trent Treatment Process team, a family of energetic process engineers, process advisors, biologists and team leads. At Severn Trent Water we have invested in building a strong in-house Process Team providing professional process advice to the Business. Our team is a cross functional diverse team covering waste and water treatment, network and customer water quality, and biology from both a hands on day to day and longer term design perspective. We are committed to provide the best service to our internal and external customers but also to provide our team with opportunities for cross functional work, career development and progression within the Treatment Process Team and the wider Business. The current available positions are within the Water Treatment team looking at providing professional process support and scientific expert advice for the optimised operation of our surface Water Treatment Works. This is a challenging role offering great variability working in a diverse team of individuals.
About The Role
As a Water Treatment Advisor you will act as key member of the Water Treatment team, providing day to day technical advice to a number of our largest and most critical surface water treatment works. As part of this role you will be looking after process issues at your works of accountability but also proactively look at trend analysis in process performance for ensuring we continue to provide the right quality of water to our customers. You will take a lead role in the optimisation of drinking water treatment processes for both quality and cost, by proactively reviewing performance of the Water Treatment Works, participating in water quality improvement initiatives, identifying and supporting the delivery of operational efficiencies (chemical, energy) and disseminating best practice within the function. You will have the opportunity to define the future of your water treatment works by working closely alongside the Process Engineers defining new capital projects to further improve performance and reduce operational risk. Whilst leading investigations into water quality issues and failures at Surface Water Works to identify the root cause, you will work to identify the mitigating actions for all relevant stakeholders, and be responsible for producing key reports and recommendations. Furthermore, a key aspect of this position is supporting the identification and reduction of water quality risks by the completion of the water treatment element of Drinking Water Safety Plan audits and the subsequent actions and identify the capital and operational investment needs to improve water quality performance. As part of the role you will be expected to develop your technical knowledge and expertise on water treatment processes and issues. The role also comes with a car allowance. Some out of hours cover will be needed as part of the role.
With a broad understanding of the operation and maintenance of water treatment processes and water science, the successful candidate will also have the ability to understand and complete complex scientific calculations to optimise both quality and cost obligations. You will have the ability to differentiate good and bad operational practice, whilst understanding the nature of the standards to which we operate and how operations may impact on these standards. In order to succeed in this role it is expected that you have the knowledge and understanding of water quality regulations and how they apply to water treatment, as well as the ability to be innovative in order to provide a variety of solutions to any problems that may arise. The successful candidate will have practical work experience in this area and excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complicated technical information to a variety of audiences ensuring it is simple and easy to understand and influence staff throughout the company to deliver the required water treatment interventions Good team working skills with the ability to work alone and planning own workload whilst responding to reactive investigations and actions are essential. You will be degree qualified in a science, environmental or engineering related discipline, or equivalent, alongside excellent communication and team working skills. Full Valid UK Driving Licence is essential.
