Principal (Lead) eMachine Design Engineer

The Role

The role involves leading the specification and design of electric machines & actuators, predominantly in the field of automotive powertrain electrification. Candidates will have prior experience of designing and developing a range of electric machine types, not necessarily from an automotive background as candidates from industrial, white goods, aerospace and other sectors will be welcomed.

- Understand client requirements and objectives

- Lead the definition of system architectures and technical solutions to meet client requirements

- Detailed electromagnetic & thermal design & optimisation of electric machines and actuators

- Involvement in motor control strategy, simulation and software development.

- Definition of electric machine manufacturing processes

- Technical interfacing with internal and client teams

- Guide mechanical development and integration of electric machines.

- Dynamic simulation of electric drive systems including performance, losses etc.

- Supervise build & testing of prototype electric machines

Role Requirements Key requirements:

- A degree in electric drives, electrical engineering or a related subject.

- In-depth understanding of various electric drive technologies.

- Experience in the design and development of a range of electric machines and drives using software packages such as MotorCAD, Infolytica MagNet, and JMAG etc.

- Experience in the design and development of motor control strategy and software.

The ideal candidate will also offer some or all the following:

- Experience designing at least two key machine technologies,

- High volume manufacturing experience would be an advantage

- A good understanding of the complete electric drive system including power electronics, control software and their inter-dependency

- Experience of model-based simulation (e.g. Matlab/Simulink), measurement and testing technologies
