A fantastic opportunity for a Functional Safety Engineer to join a major automotive brand with continued plans to expand both their product range and modern facilities. Due to continued product expansion, this is a new role to join an expanding R&D team.

Functional Safety Engineer - Automotive Electronic Systems

Duties and responsibilities:
As a Functional Safety expert working with a large electrical and electronic systems R&D team, you will ensure systems are developed to meet the requirements of ISO 26262. This is a new role within the design department and will present an exciting challenge to the successful applicant, allowing the opportunity to create new procedures and help define the shape of future functional safety activities both internally and with external suppliers.
o Lead and support cross-functional teams on functional safety matters across the entire vehicle.
o Application areas include but are not limited to engine management systems, chassis systems such as ABS, electronic suspension & body control modules, HMI systems and cyber security.
o Create and maintain formal documents, including safety cases.
o Develop best practice working procedures to support functional safety activities.

Experience required:
Applications are sought from either experienced Functional Safety Engineers or Electronics Design Engineers who have a working knowledge and particular interest in functional safety to meet the needs of ISO26262 standards for Electronics & Software product design and validation. This is a new position and will be an influential position with the organization.

Design & Development environment, ideally with safety critical products such as automotive, aerospace, rail, energy, medical or similar industry.

o Detailed understanding of ISO 26262, and the ability to interpret and lead the implementation and best practice throughout the department and suppliers.
o Prepare formal documentation to a high professional standard.
o Ability to conduct and review Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessments (HARA), Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) etc.
o Previous experience in a functional safety role working in accordance with a relevant international standard (e.g. ISO 26262, IEC 61508) working with safety critical products for the automotive, aerospace, rail, energy, medical or similar industry
o Strong communication and technical reporting skills, including the ability to communicate with overseas suppliers.
o Excellent team working skills and the ability to work under pressure to achieve tight deadlines.
o Educated to Degree/ MSc level in an Engineering / Science based subject. Ideally Chartered Engineer status or working towards accreditation.

Desirable skill requirements:
o Previous experience in the definition of hardware and software (ECU) high-level architectures for safety-critical applications.
o Previous experience in an automotive environment.
