Industrial Drives Engineer

Role: Industrial Drives Engineer

Location – Birmingham (Field Role)

Our Client is a leading worldwide Engineering company that are seeking a Industrial Drives Engineer that can repair heavy industrial electrical and Mechanical Machinery on such things as gearboxes, drive motors, Servos, PLC Controls, and can help with the design and commission variable speed drives and other automation equipment

The Industrial Repair Engineer will have knowledge of

  • installation, programming, commissioning and fault finding of inverters Drives and AC soft starters

  • installation, programming, commissioning, and fault finding of DC drives

  • Fault finding and commissioning of servo systems

  • Sites visit to diagnose and repairs customer’s equipment, electrical, electronic and mechanical.

  • Attend customer’s sites for the maintenance, installation, service and commission of variable speed drives, DC drives and other automation equipment including PLC’s and Controls.

  • Carry out training to suit customer and job requirements.

  • Complete risk assessments and method statements

  • Working to set procedures and ISO9001, 14000 & 18001 targets.

  • Ensure you adhere to Health and Safety responsibilities at all times,

  • Ensure that risks and hazards in activities undertaken to mitigate risks.


  • A time served Electrical / Electronic Engineer preferably with Mechanical experience

  • 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.

  • A good working knowledge of AC/DC drive motors

  • A working knowledge of servo drives and motors

  • Fault finding in an industrial environment, including the ability to fault find on control systems without drawings

  • Knowledge of PLC and HMI equipment and controls,

  • Ability to read, follow and understand machine electrical and mechanical drawings

  • Knowledge of rotating machines, motors and generators would be an distinct advantage


    The successful candidate will have served in an Electrical/Electronic background with hands on experience of electrical control system and preferably have some Mechanical Experience. A sound knowledge of drives and controls equipment, motors and fault finding in an industrial background will be required.
