Position Overview

We are seeking a Financial Assistant to join the Finance Support Team within the Corporate Finance Team. Specific responsibilities include invoice processing and matching to purchase orders, journal preparation and posting into monthly accounts, spend analysis, maintenance of contract trackers monthly reporting and ad hoc project work as required. We are looking for an experienced Finance Assistant with previous experience working in a busy finance team within a medium or large company. We are looking for an individual who is results and target focused, with the ability to think around problems and the initiative to action change. This individual will be able to quickly form effective working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders and the ability and confidence to communicate the results of financial analysis to these stakeholders. Previous experience with the Microsoft Dynamics finance package would be advantageous and a proficient user of Excel is a must. Please note from January 2018, employees based at Ebony House, Dudley will relocate to our new site, Ingenuity House, Bickenhill Lane, Solihull.


  • Invoice processing, including management of purchase orders and GRN process
  • Dealing with resulting queries from suppliers and operations to ensure that the correct costs are hitting the correct contract period
  • Preparation of monthly journals to allocate costs to contracts, including posting these journals into the finance system
  • Analysing large quantities of data to provide useful information to management on spend
  • Maintain contract spend trackers, including monitoring spend against budget
  • Any ad hoc project work as requested

What we are looking for

  • Preferably an individual with a finance background/experience and looking to begin or continue with their studies for a recognised accounting body
  • Finance IT system experience
  • Intermediate / Advanced Microsoft Excel Skill
  • Experience of using other Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Powerpoint and Access
  • Strong Organisational Skills
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills
  • Month End / Finance Processes
  • Reporting and analysis
  • An eye for detail and accuracy
  • Intermediate / Advanced Excel - a proficient user of Excel is a must
