Position Overview

Interserve are recruiting for an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join a busy team as an Apprentice Purchasing Administrator. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Purchasing team assisting them with day to day procurement, invoice queries, enquiries and ensuring that all matters are dealt with professionally.

The successful candidate will be given full on the job training alongside undertaking a Business Administration Apprenticeship programme.

The role will initially be based in West Bromwich however from early 2018 our offices will be relocating to Solihull (approx 6 minute walk from Birmingham International train station)


  • Typing and dispatch of purchase orders to the instruction of members of the buying team, ensuring all orders are completed dispatched and filed in a timely and professional manner
  • Placing of orders for the purchase of products, materials and services for operational teams in a busy environment to tight and often challenging deadlines
  • Resolving invoice queries and processing invoices to be sent to Accounts Payable
  • Working with operations teams and suppliers to resolve invoice queries
  • Assisting the purchasing team with day-to-day procurement, queries, problems and enquiries from operational teams associated with the ordering and invoicing processes and liaising with other purchasing team members to ensure that all matters are dealt with professionally and efficiently
  • Providing general administrative support for the purchasing team
  • Flexible approach to day-to-day procurement needs of the procurement department
  • Operation of a computerised purchase order and invoice processing system
  • Provide admin support the Purchasing Manager as required
  • Research and analysis of data from multiple data sources and maintenance of existing databases
  • Any other adhoc tasks

What we are looking for


  • GCSE, grades (or equivalent) A-C, including Maths and English


  • Strong organisation and Literacy skills
  • Computer literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Previous experience working in an administrative position
  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Working knowledge of procurement systems desirable
