An engineering services company providing solutions to Nuclear, Energy & Defence Industries in the UK and Globally.

Role Purpose

To support the planning, managing and monitoring of HSE related business activities. The HSE Coordinator will support the ongoing improvement and maintenance of HSE systems, which assure compliance to regulatory, business and customer requirements. As a member of the HSE Team, the HSE Coordinator is expected to lead by example in Health, Safety and Environmental matters.

Key Activities / Decision Areas

- Deliver requirements to satisfy HSE Policy, plan and implementation strategy, including support of system development, monitoring, review, audits and support of improvement opportunities
- Support activities associated with business accreditations and achievements - current and anticipated, including ISO14001, OHSAS18001 (ISO45001), SafeContractor, RoSPA Award, etc.
- Support completion of documentation to satisfy business tendering and customer requirements
- Promote health and safety excellence; develop awareness and a positive HSE culture across the business
- Provide sound advice to Line Managers with regards to implementation of business HSE requirements, ensuring consistency across the business sites
- Support the operation of reactive HSE systems incl:

o incident management

o emergency evacuation

o first aid response

o environmental response

- Ensuring that Learning from Experience (LfE) and improvements of systems,
- Management and control is implemented to prevent reoccurrence
- Completion of Risk Assessments, Method Statements and support to preparing Lift Plans, ensuring that risks to health, safety and environment are identified, with suitable risk rating, risk control measures implemented based upon the hierarchy of control, and factor in occupational health support processes
- Completion of specialist risk assessments, i.e.:

o Manual Handling

o Noise

o Temperature



o Noise

o Vibration


- Operation of the Permit To Work system as a SQEP Permit Officer
- Undertaking planned and unannounced inspections to ensure maintenance of HSE standards
- Carry out Waste Management activities to ensure compliance to legislative requirements and ISO14001 expectations.
- Occupational Health support including Return To Work/ Work Adjustment reviews, in support of HR, Occupational Health Provider and Line Managers
- To be involved in supporting Line Managers with any internal or externally raised Corrective Actions Requests, NCR's, OFI's. For HSE Team internally raised CAR's - duties will include operation of the system to raise, issue, update progress and document completion.
- Review and acceptance of Contractor HSE documentation, assessing contractor competence to carry out works to the required HSE standards of the business
- Completing new starter inductions
- Project Management and support of projects led by other team members, as part of improvement plan delivery
- Support development of junior team members
- Support the HSE Lead in preparation and execution of 3rd party audits (accreditation, customer, etc.)
- Able to undertake team administrative duties when required; i.e. raising purchasing requests, booking meeting rooms, monitoring of stock levels for first aid equipment, PPE, etc.
- Carrying out other duties as required to support team requirements

Essential role related knowledge, technical skills, qualifications and experience

- L5/ L6 Diploma in Health and Safety
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
- Recognised to GradIOSH level
- IEMA Foundation desirable
- PTLLS/ Level 3 Training and Education desirable
- Experience working in similar role in manufacturing/ engineering environment
- Previous experience of ISO14001/ OHSAS 18001 beneficial
- Experience of running IOSH Managing Safely courses beneficial
- Previous experience of delivering workforce training
- Competent in the use of Microsoft products
- Depth of experience completing listed JD requirements will be used to differentiate all candidates who apply for this position
- Successful applicants will be required to be SC cleared without restrictions for this appointment

- Highly self-motivated with excellent time management and the ability to prioritise own your work load
- Able to perform under pressure
- Good working knowledge of Health and Safety and Environmental legislation
- Good communication skills, able to liaise with supervisors and personnel
- Solution-driven
- Build and manage positive and productive relationships with employees & customers
- Have a hands on and pro-active approach to quality, health, safety and environment
- Be flexible with regards working hours to support the needs of the business, where required.
- Infrequent requirement to travel to other UK sites or client sites
