Our Client, a FTSE 250 listed company within the Finance and Banking Sector, is currently seeking an experienced Credit Manager to join their team in Burton on Trent on a full time, permanent basis. The role would involve underwriting asset backed transactions as well as providing credit recommendations to Senior Underwriters.

The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of underwriting techniques and requirements gained through significant exposure to SME, Commercial and Corporate underwriting. You will have the ability to operate at a high level in the Customer and Supplier environments and excellent knowledge of risk disciplines

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Underwriting within a delegated, personal underwriting authority
  • Lead responsibility for the effective deployment of Credit Risk Policies and supporting processes to ensure the office deliver to set compliance targets
  • Achieve satisfactory Credit Risk Reviews and audits of credit processes
  • Delivery of local Credit Quality Assurance programmes
  • Acting as the Credit and Risk subject matter expert, providing guidance and advise to sales teams and operations
  • Providing a high standard of credit support to and engagement with the sales teams
  • Undertaking customer visits where appropriate to support the effective underwriting of credit transactions
  • Supporting Sales Directors in coaching the less experienced members of the sales team to deliver a "right first time" principle in the development of proposals
  • Provide "in-field" support to the sales team, assisting the development and presentation of more complex proposals using market and asset knowledge
  • Underwriting and managing credit proposals to agreed SLAs
  • Owning and managing systems and processes in place
  • Managing all credit lines including timely annual reviews
  • Effectively line manage one direct report daily

Skills and experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of underwriting techniques and requirements
  • Experience of SME or Commercial underwriting within a financial services organisation
  • An excellent understanding of Asset Finance and structuring transactions with a clear risk awareness
  • Good knowledge of credit risk policies, processes and controls
  • Able to make decisions under pressure whilst maintaining a positive attitude
  • Educated to GCSE standard (Maths and English C or above)
  • Previous people management experience ideal
  • Bright, engaging with a strong work ethic
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Self motivated
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Driven with the ability to plan and organise others
