From the start of April one of my client schools is keen to take on a new 'Academic Coach' for their maths department. This position is full time and will run to the end of the academic year.
The role is to support the school's pupils in mathematics. Most of the work will be with their pupils in Key Stage 4 that are working towards their GCSE exams. In contrast to the traditional role of a teaching assistant this is a much more involved role and will require the academic coach to work as a mini teacher at times working with small groups of pupils in maths.
The school is based in Birmingham, close to Solihull and is deemed to be 'Outstanding' by Ofsted. It is home to over 1500 pupils, spread across the main school and their sixth form. The school is always over-subscribed which is testament to it being one of the best schools in the local area. Pupils come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds but all have the same desire to do well and learn whilst there.
If you're looking for the perfect springboard from which to launch your maths teaching career, then this school and position of academic coach will provide you with many of the skills necessary to become a great teacher in the future.
Make no mistake this is a tough but rewarding position. Candidates need to be focused, prepared and able to adapt to whatever a particular day or lesson throws at them. No two days will ever be the same but as you progress your knowledge and ability to help pupils in the subject will undoubtedly flourish.
If you're committed to a career in education and would relish the opportunity to join this school's maths department as an academic coach from April, then don't hesitate in applying.
