Learning Support Assistant - Maths - Birmingham Secondary School - Starts ASAP

Would you like to spend the rest of the academic year, preparing for your teacher training, working as a Learning Support Assistant in Maths?

Do you hold a degree in Maths with either a 1st or 2:1 honours degree?

Can you ignite pupils' passion for Mathematics through demonstrating the subjects relevance to everyday life as a Learning Support Assistant?

Due to a change in direction - with regard to Teaching Assistants - my client school has approached Edustaff in helping them recruit a small number of Learning Support/Teaching Assistants for both their English and Maths departments. The role of L.S.A within their Maths department will start in January and be full time (during term time) until July 2017.

This Birmingham secondary is a relatively small school with a really warm and caring atmosphere. It might not be cutting edge in terms of facilities and the classrooms but this is more than made up for by a staff of dedicated and innovative teachers and a roll of pupils that enjoy school, are well behaved and put a lot in to their studies. It would be hard to find a TA / LSA that wouldn't enjoy working in such an establishment.

As a graduate Learning Support/Teaching Assistant working in the school's Maths department you will be tasked with supporting the Maths teachers and their pupils. You will be spread across different year groups depending on the demands of the department. The school require candidates to assist in raising the levels of numeracy across age groups, supporting GCSE Maths pupils who are on the potential C/D borderline. Certain pupils struggle to grasp mathematical principle so the ability to find different and innovative methods to aid learning will stand you in excellent stead.

As with all Graduate Learning Support roles the demands placed on candidates are wide and varied. One day is seldom similar to the next or the previous. At times you may be expected to work one-on-one with a pupil who may have specific barriers to learning. At other times you could be expected to break off from the main class with a small group of high achieving students that require work of a more challenging nature.

This Teaching Assistant position is the idea stepping stone to a career as Maths Teacher and will provide you with all the necessary tools and experience to ensure you excel on your future career.
