Vehicle Test Engineer with experience of HGV/LGV vehicles required to develop Commercial Vehicle brake systems for the market leader. The purpose of the role is to carry out Research & Development, customer support of vehicle systems, as required for new and existing products.

Our Client designs, develops and manufactures a range of braking products which are supplied to major commercial vehicle OEMs around the world. They have a worldwide footprint and have a wide range of braking and associated products in their portfolio.

Vehicle Test Engineer Role:

To work in accordance with Health & Safety procedures.

Carry out the installation, maintenance and test of prototype and production systems at Midlands vehicle testing facility and, when required, at customer premises in the UK and abroad.

Installation, calibration and operation of instrumentation.

Drive commercial vehicles for the purposes of R&D, endurance testing and system monitoring.

Assist Engineers with various system tests.

Responsible for carrying out scheduled safety inspections, to a varied fleet of complex test vehicles with integrated electronic systems and performance monitoring computers.

Vehicle Test Engineer Requirements:

A recognised engineering qualification, or relevant experience.
LGV NVQ in Motor Vehicle Mechanics, City & Guilds 381 Part 1 & 2 or recognised apprenticeship.
HNC/degree in Mechanical Engineering desirable.
Full LGV Desirable.
Clean licence is essential.
Awareness of legislation in relation to the use of a LGV on public roads.
Capable of carrying out routine inspection of Trucks & Trailers in accordance with established company procedure and VOSA / Manufacturer requirements.
Commercial Vehicle workshop experience including a good understanding of:
Brake System Fundamentals.
Brake System Diagnosis and Repair.
ABS & EBS (Anti-Lock Brakes / Electronic Braking Systems).
ASR (Traction Control Systems).
ESP (Stability Control).
Able to diagnose faults by inspecting / testing vehicle, and by the use of laptop diagnostic software, pressure gauges, rolling roads, multimeters etc.
Understanding / Awareness of Truck & Trailer Diagnostic Systems.
Computer Literacy - a good understanding of Microsoft Office and Vehicle based Data Logging systems.
Fork Lift Truck Licence (Preferred but not considered to be essential).
