YSS have been successful in securing funding from the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver two diversionary projects Divert and ARC. The projects will provide1:1 support to referred 13-24 year olds, in, or at risk of being involved in, the criminal justice system. The projects aim to support and motivate young adults aged between 13 - 24 years to achieve the following outcomes:
Reduction in anti-social behaviour/offending/re-offending
Engagement in education, training and employment programmes
Addressing the harm caused by alcohol
Increased confidence and self esteem
The Project Co-ordinator will work with the young adult to decide what activities they want to be involved in and what outcomes they want to achieve e.g. better social relationships, improved educational attainment, addressing health concerns.
They will assist, support, source and signpost the young adult to any identified positive activities - e.g. learning to swim, joining a library, attending a health clinic.
An important aspect of the role will be a focus on ETE, looking at upskilling and supporting young people/adults into meaningful activity such as engaging with education providers, volunteering, work placements, training places and sustainable employment and addressing the harm caused by alcohol use. They will also support emotional wellbeing (all workers will receive accredited Mental Health First Aid training).
The successful candidate will have experience of working directly with adult young persons or similar client groups (youth justice) and knowledge of the factors that lead to social exclusion, anti-social behaviour and offending by people.
