Hofer, established in the 1980's, is a privately owned, German based, automotive engineering consultancy growing to in excess of 1,000 people over the next few years. We work with many of the world's automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and automotive technology centres and have numerous powertrain components in mass production including hofer designed electric motors and hybrid modules to full dual clutch transmissions.

With numerous offices across Germany, Austria, Italy, America, China and the UK, hofer has a truly global presence allowing comprehensive support for powertrain projects across all vehicle sectors.

- Specific sites setup to support many of the German OEMs
- hofer Mechatronik GmbH (Part of the hofer group) is the largest independent automotive hydraulics consultancy in the world
- Involved in many current and future AT, AMT, DCT and MT volume transmission design projects from clean sheet to production
- hofer has its own inverter / electric control technology and has designed hybrid modules and e-motors that are in production across the world
- Full design to production experience of hybrid powertrain technologies from energy storage to the road

As part of hofer groups global growth, and the continuing expansion of hofer powertrain UK, a vacancy has arisen for a Build / Development Technician to join the Warwick office. Reporting to the Development Lead. Hofer Powertrain UK seeks a Build / Development Technician with a minimum of 5 years' experience in transmissions and driveline.

The key functions of the role:

- Build of transmissions, assembled to the expected standard, and to the project timing plan, in the UK.
- If required, lead transmission build projects and supervise other build technicians working on the project.
- Support the installation and commissioning of the hofer UK build facility.
- Tracking of prototype parts, ensuring components are handled in accordance with hofer standards, from receipt of goods through to delivery to customer.
- Liaison with engineers and programme management, with respect to daily build progress, assembly issues, test and development requirements, etc.
- Manage ad hoc requests from engineering team, such as modifications to components, inspection and assembly checks.
- Perform controlled teardowns of transmissions including handling and storage of components.
- Build and maintain a suitable record of assembly related issues over the lifetime of a transmission development project.
- Liaise with production team members for handover of build issues and assembly care points.
- Support engineering team with establishing assembly procedures and build manuals.
- Ensure appropriate tools and consumables are readily available.
- Maintain a tidy and organised workspace.
- Liaison with other hofer sites in order to co-ordinate build activities and ensure delivery is in line with the customer requirements.
- Support internal virtual build reviews.
- Work with suppliers to ensure that parts meet requirements.
- Support and evaluate the results of component testing with the development team.
- Some travel to Germany to liaise with the engineering teams, and for training purposes, will be required.
- Provide input to support production and product planning.

Qualifications / Education / Experience required:

- Demonstrate good practical skills, competent in the assembly of automotive transmissions.
- Practical working knowledge of modern automotive transmission and driveline systems.
- Fundamental appreciation of manufacturing techniques used in automotive transmissions.
- Experience working in a clean build environment.
- Experience specifying prototype assembly tools.
- Comfortable with interpreting technical engineering drawings and assembly procedures.
- Demonstrate good time management, able to achieve project objectives with minimal supervision.
- Able to work well with other technicians, engineers and programme team.
- ND qualified in an automotive/mechanical discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years demonstrable experience within transmission and driveline build and development.
- A good understanding of the testing that would be required to take a transmission into volume production.
- Knowledge of prototype and volume transmission build methods, manufacturing techniques and design for service requirements.
- PC literate and able to use MS Office products.

Other beneficial attributes:

- Knowledge of the German language and experience working with German companies.
- HV training would be beneficial, but not essential.
