We're now looking for a product manager to join our New Product Development team to help us continue to make that difference.

Role Overview

Following the successful launch of broadband and home services, we want to continue to make a difference to our customers, through our strategy of creating and launching products that differentiate First Utility. We are now looking for a creative, energetic, analytical and commercially focused Product Manager of New Product Development, to drive the delivery of the product roadmap in energy and telco, as well as identifying new opportunities in areas such as insurance, mobile and beyond.

Areas of Specific Responsibility

Reporting to the Senior Manager of New Product Development, the product manager will be responsible for the delivery of the product roadmap across a range of product and service areas, developing compelling business cases, identifying and engaging potential partners and building the customer proposition designed to differentiate First Utility, increasing customer brand loyalty and acquisition.

The appointed candidate will work closely with key internal stakeholders, driving the implementation of new product propositions including Tech, Digital, Customer Operations and Marketing.

Key Tasks

  • Contribute ideas to the NPD strategy and roadmap

  • Working alongside the Director of NPD, support the delivery of the roadmap

  • Use the analysis and segmentation of target audiences to identify market needs, new areas of commercial innovation and revenue growth that will set First Utility apart from the competition

  • Support idea generation, concept creation and implementation of products that enhance the First Utility proposition and great customer experiences that ultimately deliver key business objectives of acquiring and retaining customers

  • Support the implementation of commercial partnerships where we do not have in-house capabilities

  • Work with the finance and commercial teams to create the supporting analysis to help the business with decision making

  • Work in collaboration across the Product and Marketing team and the wider business to ensure that all areas of the business are providing timely resource to deliver the required developments

  • Keep up to date with trends and market information including regular benchmarking activity

Essential Criteria

  • Graduate calibre, ideally with a marketing qualification e.g. CIM or equivalent experience

  • Experience of new product development from proposition to implementation

  • Experience in telco or financial services would be an advantage but is not essential

  • Strong commercial experience with expertise in the development of business cases

  • Experience of translating complex sets of data and insights into actions and propositions

  • Experience of managing budgets and costs

  • Experience of translating complex business requirements into product specifications

  • Evidence of having operated effectively in a fast moving, ever changing environment

  • Strong creative, strategic, analytical and organisational skills

  • Experience of managing direct and cross-functional teams and people

  • Ability to exercise effective judgement, discretion, sensitivity, creativity to changing needs and situations

  • Ability to think and act quickly to deliver, while also being able to keep the bigger picture in mind

  • Ability to form strong working relationships with colleagues and business partners at all levels

  • Entrepreneurial spirit coupled with a strong consumer focus/interest
