The Analytical Chemist will provide analytical chemistry services to the project commissioning team to ensure all samples are correctly taken, prepared, analysed and recorded.

The position is site based at Derby EFW Plant, Sinfin Lane, Derby

A notice period of 1 month would be required for this position. Nature and Scope To liaise with the Process Commissioning Engineering team and Commissioning Manager to ensure prompt and adequate testing to provide sufficient high-quality information for process optimisation and correct operation of the plant.

To develop/write and record all laboratory procedures for sampling, storage, testing and reporting - for inclusion in the O&M’s.

To record accurate analytical results on a project spreadsheet which will be shared by commissioning team members and presented to the client.

To maintain in good condition all test equipment and ensure reagents & consumables are held in stock at suitable levels.

To supervise and train laboratory technicians in correct sampling techniques, preparation procedures, analytical methodology and use of test equipment.

To assist with any training activities to develop technicians’ skills & knowledge and record all training activities.

To ensure all appropriate safety measures are in place and conveyed to laboratory technicians for the correct storage, use and disposal of all hazardous samples and chemicals. Provide appropriate COSHH assessments.

To ensure good laboratory practices are in place and followed with regards to housekeeping & laboratory cleanliness, also logging samples to facilitate tracking of laboratory work progress.

To attend team meetings, as required, to discuss operational issues regarding the laboratory and present analytical data.

Assist the Commissioning Team with any regulatory sampling & testing, including liaising with external laboratories to provide representative samples.

To report on progress, concerns and programme issues to the Commissioning Manager to mitigate loss of time or progress.

Maintain a daily diary listing the daily activities and any daily key events that occur.

Skills and Qualifications An appropriate degree (Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Science etc)

Experience in analytical chemistry.

Experience of Materials Recycling Facility. Experience of AD plant.

Conversant with appropriate sampling, preparation and analytical techniques for a wide range of samples.

Computer literate: conversant with MS Office.

Good time-management skills.

Strong people & communication skills, relationship building, influencing and collaborative work style developed through working in complex and team-focused environments.

Possess a current IOSH, NEBOSH, SMSTS, SSSTS or one day CITB H&S Awareness course.
