Data Analyst / B.I. Developer

Based in Midlands: Leamington spa

Main purpose of the role

The Data Analyst/B.I. Developer role will work with the Jaguar Land Rover Global Reporting and Analytics team, part of the Global Learning Services department. The Jaguar Land Rover Global Learning Services team play a pivotal role in the development of a fully competent, capable and formidable Global retail network for Jaguar Land Rover. The Learning Services team are part of the wider Global Network Learning and Development (GNL&D) Team and are responsible for the development, measurement and management of the Global learning standards, learning platforms and human capability. This involves working with the relevant cross-functional teams and International Regions and Markets.

The main purpose of the Data Analyst/B.I. Developer role is to support in the delivery of Global reporting/analysis of Learning and Development related data to the business, working alongside other team members (Business Analysts/Developers etc.) in designing, developing, testing and distributing key M.I/B.I reporting, whilst also undertaking analysis to provide value-added insights, enabling data driven decision making.

Candidate Responsibilities

- Responsibility for developing and delivering high quality M.I./B.I. reporting solutions to the GNL&D department and the wider business as necessary, in order to equip Management with the necessary data / analysis to enable timely, data driven decision making.
- Capture new M.I/B.I reporting and analysis stakeholder requirements, identify and source relevant data and develop the necessary reports / analysis / insights.
- Be able to write SQL to do initial data queries/extraction that can then be communicated to peers for further analysis/report development.
- Support with creation of new/migration of existing M.I reports in to Tableau (JLR approved data visualisation tool).
- Development and delivery of relevant weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly and annual Global reporting requirements.
- Develop and deliver short term ad-hoc reporting, supporting functional leads in response to high-priority topical issues.
- Support development and delivery of mid/long-term correlation analysis between Global L&D metrics and wider business metrics, using statistical modelling techniques.
- To improve existing reporting and analysis processes where possible, in order to streamline tasks and minimise business continuity risks.
- Potential for candidate to support with the design, delivery and deployment of a green-field Operational Data Store (ODS) and Data Warehouse (DW) - the necessary B.I. Architecture to meet the needs of GNL&D / the wider JLR business' short-term, medium-term and long-term reporting requirements.

Candidate Requirements

- Proven experience in data manipulation / data analysis
- Ability to manage and interpret / query large quantities of data, understanding of multiple data sets
- Experience of working with data analysis / visualisation tools - ideally a minimum of 3 years M.I. / B.I. development experience
- Experience in SQL (queries, views, stored procedures, user defined functions, cursors, indexing etc)
- High standard of literacy in Excel features & functions in order to maintain existing reports if necessary as well as developing others (i.e.VLOOKUPs, IF statements, SUM statements, pivot tables, graphs & charts, VBA / Macros etc)
- Experience in the following B.I. / data visualisation tools advantageous; Tableau, Jaspersoft
- Technical knowledge and applied understanding of databases and systems architecture advantageous
- Experience in Google Cloud Services, BigQuery advantageous
- Experience in working with, development and / or maintenance of Databases (e.g. DBA), Operational Data Stores / Data Warehouses / Data Marts / OLAP cubes / Ad-hoc analysis tools.
- Statistical modelling techniques / data mining experience advantageous
- Education to degree level is an advantage but not essential


- An understanding of Cloud Computing, in particular database and ETL integration into the Cloud / Data Lakes.
- Experience with Data Profiling tools
- Understanding of Github code management
- Experience in developing dashboards in multiple reporting platforms
- Experience of BI Development / Database Management within the Learning & Development industry
- Experience with creation of users, groups, projects, workbooks and the appropriate permission sets for the reporting platform's server logons and security checks
