Application Support Developer - Birmingham - £35,000 to £45,000

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity with a company who works with the latest technology and constantly invests in their developers to make sure the company remain the market leaders?

This role plays an active daily role in the support and maintenance of a suite of live applications and environments. The role is varied, with tasks including finding and fixing code or configuration issues, generating assets for deployments, supporting systems and environments for internal teams, plus any other ad hoc issues or support tasks as directed by the product team.

The key requirement is for somebody who has a broad knowledge base, including Java and associated APIs, SQL and SQL Server, Linux, Docker and basic networking and who has real-world exposure of applying that knowledge to live environments.

  • Core Java
  • Java server-side web development(Servlets, Sessions, …) within a distributed environment
  • SQL and SQL Server
  • Linux
  • Basic networking
  • Familiarity with web development such as javascript/jQuery

Working with the support and product and development teams to triage and fix issues in live, staging and development environments. Produce deployable assets that address live issues or which introduce new instances of the applications for new customers.

This will involve:

  • Working with the product team to address a prioritised stream of support issues
  • Assisting internal teams to resolve their internal environment issues
  • Provide detailed assessments of support issues and, where appropriate, fixes to issues
  • Following the strategy and best practices of the group
  • Docker
Task management
  • Log time spent against projects as directed by Project Office
  • Use task tracking tools as directed by Team Lead and Development Manager
  • Communicate progress and issues to product team in a timely manner

Support Development

  • Triage support issues and propose solutions.
  • Where appropriate, implement solutions to support issues in Java code or SQL, with consultation with development team.
  • Support and maintain internal environments.
  • Work closely with the DevOps, development and content teams to support and improve the tools used to create and deploy artifacts to the live environment.
  • Produce and maintain documentation on internal environments.
  • Communicate all code, process, config or environmental changes made to the affected development or business team
  • Follow the strategy and best practices of the group
