Salary 19,000 p.a. (increasing to 21,000 with training and experience)
37 ½ hours a week

Location - anywhere in England provided you can access a main railway station.

This post requires travel to courts throughout England and Wales, and some overnight stays.

Due to further growth of Communicourt’s services we need four more Psychology Graduates to help us deliver a high-quality service to our clients. Our office base is in the Midlands but the successful candidate could live anywhere close to a main railway station.

We are looking for dynamic and inspirational Psychology Graduates to join our enthusiastic team of intermediaries working with people with communication disability in the family and criminal courts.

Communicourt intermediaries assist vulnerable people to understand the legal case, what their options might be, and to give their evidence. We carry out detailed communication assessments and give practical advice to the courts about how a person’s communication difficulties will impact on their ability to understand and participate in the justice system, and suggesting strategies that will assist. The people we work with may have learning disability, a mental health condition, Autistic Spectrum Condition, an acquired communication disability, ADHD, or ABI, and may be any age from 10 upwards. The oldest person we have worked with is 101!

Successful applicants will have a passion for justice and fairness towards communication impaired people, a knowledge of mental health conditions and learning disabilities, and be eager to develop their professional skills.

You will learn to:
• Accurately and quickly assess and monitor an individual’s communication difficulties
• Advise on a client’s difficulties and make recommendations for managing these at court
• Work with law practitioners to enable the defendant to participate in the court process.
• Where necessary actively facilitate communication between the client and other parties during the trial

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
• Experience in communicating with vulnerable people
• A degree in Psychology and/or Speech and Language Therapy
• Knowledge of Mental Health conditions and communication impairment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Emotional resilience to deal with difficult situations
• Confident in travelling around the country to hew places using public transport
