Have you got previous experience of working with children or young people?
Perhaps you’ve worked with vulnerable people before or have a passion for helping others?
Do have the right qualities to be a role model and motivate someone to change their life?Rainsbrook Secure Training Centre in Rugby is currently recruiting for Custodial Care Officers to help supervise 12-18 year olds who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention.

What does a Custodial Care Officer do?

All our new recruits complete a seven week induction and training programme designed to equip you with the skills to deliver every aspect of being an effective Custodial Care Officer.

On successful completion you will be assigned to a team and begin working directly with the young people in our care, to supervise and support them whilst they take part in a range of offending behaviour programmes and education designed to help them understand what led them into custody and to prepare them for release.

Every single day you will play a key role in helping them rebuild their skills and experiences, motivating and inspiring them to fulfil their potential and turn their lives around.

This is certainly a diverse and hugely rewarding role but can be extremely challenging at times too. The children and young people in our care can often be confrontational and unpredictable at times so you will need to remain calm, confident and resilient; with a supportive firm but fair approach to dealing with a variety of situations effectively.

Please note, Rainsbrook is a 24/7site and we operate a rotational shift pattern that includes weekends and nights as such you will be expected to work the below rotational pattern.

Days- 7.30am-9.30pm (3 shifts a week)

Nights- 9.15pm-7.45am (every 16 weeks 7 nights shifts then 7 days off)

Weekend work every other weekend

New Custodial Care Officers receive a starting salary of £20,705 whilst completing your training and probationary period. This will then increase to £23,500 after successfully passing your probation.

What skills and experience do we look for?

You don’t need a degree or certain qualification to be a Custodial Care Officer; it’s far more important to us that you have the right qualities to be a great role model who can motivate and inspire young people to change.

You’ll also need to be passionate about helping others, calm and confident under pressure, with the resilience to handle a variety of challenging situations effectively.

To apply for this role, you must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.

You will also be required to undergo DBS enhanced level security clearance and will need to provide full details of your work and education history covering the last 5 years as part of the screening process for this role.
