Tax Manager

Based in Worcester with a regular requirement to also work at the Evesham office

£35,000 to £40,000 per annum pro rata

Available as a role for between 24 to 40 hours per week

Our client, a long established, progressive and dynamic firm of accountants, have an exciting opportunity for a generalist Tax Manager with outstanding numeracy skills, proven initiative, a logical and analytical mind and the ability to interpret and explain complex legislation to non-specialists.

Whilst some experience of having worked in a similar role is essential, a CTA or ATT qualification is desirable but not essential, provided the candidate is experienced in the field of tax advice, with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of business and personal tax, including corporate tax.

Job Description

Job title: Tax Manager

Reporting to: Director

Responsible for: Payroll (3FTE) and Tax Assistant(1FTE)

Main purpose of job:

To keep up to date with ever changing corporate and personal tax legislation, in order to provide exemplary, compliant tax advisory and consultancy services to our clients, in simple terms, ensuring that they not only meet all tax obligations, but pay tax in the most efficient way and benefit from any tax advantages and exemptions.

Responsibilities, duties and tasks:

  • Research, analyse and interpret changing tax legislation in the UK
  • Meet with clients and collate information
  • Oversee the technical aspect of the payroll team
  • Work with tax law and revenue provisions
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of compliance tax returns
  • Liaise and negotiate with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) on behalf of our clients
  • Provide tax consultancy services to our clients
  • Create tax strategies for clients and plan their financial futures
  • Carry out detailed computations to calculate tax liability and advise on how to minimise the client's liability
  • Carry out Estate planning for our clients and advise on tax residence and domicile matters
  • Provide guidance on indirect taxation issues such as VAT, customs planning and environmental taxes
  • Produce reports and presentations for clients

General duties:

  • To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job and participate in appropriate training activities.
  • To undertake such other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job, whether that be on-the-job training, in-house training or external training courses.

Qualifications/Training:

It is desirable that the postholder has:

  • CTA or ATT qualification
  • Studying towards a CTA qualification

Experience/Knowledge:

It is essential that the postholder has:

  • Experience of having worked in a similar role
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of business and personal tax, including corporate tax.
  • Experience of working to and developing systems and processes

It is desirable that the postholder has:

  • Experience of having worked in a similar role within a small to medium size accountancy firm
  • An understanding of international tax aspects, inheritance tax, Capital Taxes such as CGT, and VAT would be an advantage.
