Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

Location: Midlands Area

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000

General Overview:

The position of Quantity Surveyor is responsible for the minimization of project costs to enhance value for money whilst still achieving the required standards and quality. The Quantity Surveyor will assist the site team in delivering energy infrastructure projects on time and within budget.

Impact:

The key deliverable for this role is the effective recording and reporting of project programmes, which are to be cost loaded.

Key Tasks:

  • Financial Reporting
    • Ability to interpret a CVR
    • Ability to create and maintain a CVR
    • Ability to develop forecasts (final position and cash flow)
    • Ability to develop and understand a project budget from which to ensure compliance
  • Estimating
    • Ability to develop estimates with design input
    • Ability to perform risk analysis and identify value management during pre-contract stages
  • Commercial Negotiation
    • Performing risk and value management
    • Knowledge of the payment process (CA compliance)
    • Experience in the issuing of Formal Notifications
    • Experience with dispute resolution
      • Identifying, analysing and developing responses and or submittals
    • Experience in developing a Procurement Schedule and feeding comments to the Project Planner
    • Experience of dealing with Clients and Senior Management
    • Experience of taking site measurements from which to value works/create projections
    • Experience in preparing, negotiating and analysing bidders in a tender process
  • Contract knowledge
    • Wide understanding of model form contracts
      • Ability to identify the most appropriate form of contract for the given use
      • Ability to draft contracts and assist in the process to apply appropriate risk/liabilities, often drawn from the Head Contract
      • Ability to interpret and enforce contracts
      • Ability to support the site team on how to adhere to contract terms/ mechanisms
  • Working Experience
    • To maintain and apply a good understanding of business objectives in all aspects of the role
    • Experience of working in large organisations
    • Experience of working on district heating/industrial installation projects
    • Experience of site working
    • Experience of feeding into the delivery of a portfolio of Mechanical, Electrical and Civil projects through a diverse set of Senior PM's, Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers and Designers
    • Ability to liaise with site teams, external parties and contractors to discuss the progress of the project and to address any issues that may arise
    • Ability to liaise with external contractors and suppliers to organize the phases of the construction development
    • Ability to influence
    • Ability to present information in a concise manner, both orally and written
    • Ability to identify, monitor, mitigate and manage project and operational risks
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Qualifications or Required Experience:

Essential:

  • Qualified surveyor with relevant experience Quality led
  • Can do attitude
  • Strong communication including writing reports and presenting Time management and planning
  • Organisation Methodological approach High Attention to detail IT/ Computer literate
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure Work as part of a team and individually
  • Understanding engineering principles preferable Good knowledge of construction
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Good financial and numeracy management skills Excellent negotiating skills
  • The ability to absorb complex information and assess requirements readily
