Head of HR - £60/70k & £5k car allowance & benefits – West Midlands

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful business operating in a niche sector employing 650 employees. The role reports to the MD and offers complete autonomy with the opportunity to own the HR agenda.

Role Purpose:

The main purpose of the role will be to lead the people agenda to help optimise the human factors that drive business results and support growth. This will cover HR, training and development & internal communications.

You will lead an existing team HR team in driving HR operational excellence whilst building relationships with key stakeholders within the business and truly getting to understand their needs, offering insight and guidance on the whole range of HR areas including recruitment and selection, performance and people management, policy and procedure, reward and recognition, talent and succession, workforce planning and employee engagement.

Key Accountabilities:

Develop and implement an annual agenda for people & development strategy in line with the business plan

Lead, coach and direct the Human Resources team

Provide coaching and leadership development to the Board, Senior Leaders and Managers

Deliver strategic succession and talent management

Attendance at monthly board meetings

Deal with complex disciplinary/grievance and HR issues

Responsible for the HR Quality Management System.

Lead on TUPE transfers, ensuring seamless integration and mitigating risk to the business.

Carry out due diligence for any potential acquisitions

Manage all internal communications ensuring effective messaging

Lead on employee engagement.

Ensure reward and recognition practices attract and retain the best talent

Participate in wider Group HR strategy as appropriate

Ensure the team is trained to fulfil requirements of their role and to assist in their continuous professional development.

The ideal candidate will have:

Previous experience of managing an HR team across multiple locations

Experience of operating at a senior level

Experience of developing an HR plan/strategy

Experience of developing succession plans and talent management

Demonstrable experience of adding value

Experience of dealing with senior and challenging individuals

Demonstrable experience in effectively managing TUPE

Acquisition experience would be advantageous

Experience of solid data reporting and analysis

Experience of driving leadership development


Must be able to think strategically and translate strategy into deliverable plans

Excellent communication, influencing, presentation and facilitation skills

Ability to build rapport quickly with all levels of employees

Confidence to challenge in one on one and group situations to board level

Strong coaching capability

Continuous Improvement mentality with an ability to develop and introduce new methods of working

IT literate

Excellent planning and organising skills with an eye for detail

Ability to deliver to tight timescales and work in an agile environment with changing demands

A professional and commercial approach to HR

Ability to drive high performance in self and teams

Up to date with latest HR thinking and legislation changes


Of graduate calibre

CIPD/HR qualification essential
