Role – Junior Buyer
Location – Birmingham
Salary – £20,000 – £25,000 + Pension + 1pm Friday finish
ATA Recruitment are currently working with a manufacturer of bespoke components for the aerospace and gas turbine industries with three manufacturing sites in the Midlands. The company employs 100 people at the Birmingham manufacturing site and 300 across their group. They have a wide range of complex multi axis milling and turning machines used in their process and machine parts from exotic metals including Nickel Alloys, Titanium and Magnesium.
The business has ambitious plans to grow from a £30 million to £100 million business in the next five years. As part of this they are looking to recruit a Junior Buyer to join their current team of five, the Junior Buyer will be trained and mentored over the next few years to become a fully-fledged buyer within the business, there is therefore a great deal of progression and development opportunities on offer.

Over the next 3-5 years you will be trained up to become an experienced buyer within the business, some of your responsibilities will be as follows:
Purchasing support administration activities.
- Finding current costings for a variety of parts.
- Putting together documentation.
- Ordering different materials and components for production.
Over time you will then become more involved in the following:
Ordering of materials through the MRP System (billets, forgings, castings, metal bar)
Placing the order with the client and receive back confirmation of receipt of delivery within 5 days of the order being placed.
Ensure the MRP system has accurately predicted the correct delivery date – sometimes standard order sizes are processed automatically and need amending.
Manage the relationship with the supplier
Business reviews with suppliers – understanding their processes and bottle necks and building partnership relationships with them – see the suppliers production process as an extension of their own.
Support the Supplier Quality Engineer in due course with information required to produce customer score cards.
Challenge price rises from suppliers.
To be successful in your application for Junior Buyer you will need:
Previous experience as either a Purchasing Assistant of Assistant Buyer and are looking to develop into a Buyer within the next 3-5 years.
Ideally you would have worked in an engineering environment however my client will consider other industries providing the candidate has a great attitude and willingness to learn.
