Job Summary

·The Procurement / Planning Manager is responsible for the effectiveness and continuing development of the procurement and planning processes.

·Developing, implementing and delivering against a credible production plan.

·Thereby, maximising On Time Delivery (OTD) and Stock Turns.

·The Procurement / Planning Manager will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective running of all aspects of procurement, production planning, forecasting and reporting for the company.

·Working closely with the Manufacturing Manager and Production Manager will co - ordinate with sales to ensure on time delivery of all customer orders.

·You will also have responsibility for the management of inventory, BOM, and routes of manufacture ensuring the correct material and information are transferred to the works order.

Procurement/Planning Manager

Responsibilities

·Serve as a member of the company senior management team and participate in developing the company’s business strategies and programs.

Issuing reports and setting objectives: -

·Set and operate local purchasing and planning policies, SOP’s and frameworks in line with group strategy and business needs.

·Provide leadership to a small team of purchasing / planning professionals; developing, set- ting goals and monitoring the progress and performance of the team.

·Set commercial standards and develop budgets for direct and indirect spend;

·Create production plans, either in dedicated cells or across sections to ensure that OTD is met.

·Ensure optimum inventory levels of component parts to continuously feed the production process while increasing stock turns and reducing working capital.

·Manage purchasing and planning information systems analysing and using data collected to develop and strengthen the supply chain to improve on time delivery.

·Act as the primary contact with suppliers, managing the supply base to ensure good, reliable sources of supply and information; making decisions based on understanding of risk to the business.

·Deliver cost savings and lead cost reduction efforts for the purchasing function using appropriate procurement tools.

·Develop and lead cross functional teams making recommendations and taking decisions on make vs buy and supplier rationalisation.

·Develop staff knowledge / skills, assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the team and the processes and put actions in place to fill or correct the gaps in training and/or processors.

·Ensure staff are conforming to policies and directives necessary in their daily tasks.

·Work with the Manufacturing Manager and Production Manager to ensure optimum man- power resource levels to deliver the business objectives of On Time Deliveries (OTD).

·Maintain a tracker of late deliveries, identify the root courses and put corrective actions in place to eliminate the causes of late deliveries.

·Ensure processes are in place and communicated to team members in order that planning parameters are maintained and changes are communicated throughout the business as required.

·Evaluate and monitor supply performance from internal and external suppliers to ensure that plans are achieved, potential issues are identified and countermeasures are put in place.

·To contribute in the bids process where necessary for large projects so that procurement issues are fully recognised by all parties.

·Be committed to reducing our lead times and be active in initiatives that that do this

·Implement and maintain cycle counting.

·To undertake any other duties specified by the Procurement and Planning Manager to fulfil the business needs.

·To participate, identify, develop and implement continuous improvement activities through- out the function.

The Person

Qualifications and Experience

·Proven record of success in planning and procurement with strong understanding and exposure to operations, engineering, distribution and supply chain.

·Graduate or equivalent with a strong engineering/manufacturing background.

·Relevant Procurement/Planning professional qualifications (CIPS).

·Experience of working within a result driven environment with skills in managing both core process and bringing a creative and innovative approach.

·Experience of operating within a global manufacturing/ technology business and a balance of working both strategically and operationally.

·Broad based technical and business knowledge of the Defence industry is desirable.

·Successful management experience in similar organisation.

·Proven track record of change leadership and of delivering results and improved performance combined with the ability to inspire and manage development activity through strong influencing ability.

·Experience in a metrics focused environment including weekly and monthly quarterly reporting and analysis.

·Strong computer literature skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
