A Senior Database Developer is required for one of the world's leading ticket specialists. My client supplies products to instantly recognisable brands both in the UK and worldwide.

My client holds an extensive range of awards and due to the continued growth they are currently undergoing a major transformation project with the re-platforming of their core system with changes to their hosting and development techniques.

The Senior Database Developer will be a key member of the Senior Management Team working to help their transformation program by establishing a fundamental change to my clients existing database solution and modernising it with new techniques.

This individual will be as comfortable during the recovery of a database, backing up and testing the backups as well as using optimising techniques and tools such as Redgate.

They will also be comfortable getting their hands dirty with TSQL development and they must be able to debug their core stored procedures and working out how best to optimise and improve them.

Responsibilities of the Senior Database Developer

• The role will have direct responsibilities to 2 DBAs and will need to support and nurture them to ensure they can use improved techniques in the latest releases of SQL Server

• Take full responsibilities of current databases, support and enhance their current offerings and improve areas such as external data imports/integrations using SSIS where necessary.

• Review current security models around database access and ensure they adhere to best practices.

• Improve and enhance current reporting facilities.

• Monitor and maintain optimal performance of the databases.

• Investigate the overreliance on large stored procedures and where ever possible break down the functionality into simplified modular components

• Analyse current database infrastructure and setup analysing areas where changes to hardware configuration/setup can improve reliability and performance.

• Investigate and provide alternative solutions to their status quo of MSSQL and where appropriate ensure other technologies are always considered when feasible.

• Develop DR solution and ensure AWS/Azure DB environments are full operational

The Senior Database Developer Skills:

• Excellent knowledge MS SQL 2008/2012/2016

• Excellent knowledge of TSQL and development of stored procedures

• Excellent knowledge of database designs and relational databases

• Excellent ability to maintain and manage SQL Server

• Excellent ability to monitor servers including the use of Redgate tools, profiler, Debugging locks, Perfmon, DMVs etc

• Excellent understanding of agent jobs and security around them

• Excellent knowledge of SSIS and SSRS

• Understanding of cloud based DB platforms including Azure and AWS RDS/Standalone

• Understanding of other DB technologies including MySQL/NoSQL/MongoDB/Redis

• Development and debugging skills including scripting and knowledge of languages such as .NET/Java etc.
