Harvesting Manager

Telford, Shropshire

£20,000 - £35,000

Monday - Friday, Occasional Weekends - Seasonal Hours

Within a fast paced agriculture farming environment, the Harvesting Manager works closely with the Farm Manager to assist in lettuce harvesting. Within a small, dynamic team of harvesters you would be expected to manage the Telford harvesting farming network from harvesting iceberg lettuce given the supply expectations of the Head Office.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain an efficient farm
  • Manage all harvesting staff
  • Management and control of all costs associated with the farming activities
  • Ensure smooth running of all functions within the farm
  • Manage and motivate staff effectively
  • Planning of crops and ordering of seed and plant to fulfil requirements
  • Management of farm related paperwork in particular timely and correct usage of purchase ordering system
  • Report on farm performance according to company requirements
  • Attend training and develop relevant knowledge and skills
  • Ensure all harvesting staff are fully trained
  • Communicate company strategy and policies effectively to all harvesting staff
  • Improve and maintain a high level of health and safety
  • Comprehensive control of stock and chemicals
  • Maximise the farming efficiencies
  • Management and maintenance of all farm equipment
  • Maintain the service records of all of the farming equipment
  • Provide an efficient and effective service
  • Conversant with the Health & Safety procedures and fully observe the safety rules
  • Ensure that H & S working practices are adhered to within your farming staff
  • Ensure that farming methods are always the best most efficient use of, keeping abreast of the new ways of working etc.

Required Skills

  • Previous experience of harvesting (roots & vegetable's)
  • Chemical handling/ spraying experience (PA1 & PA2)
  • Experience of operating tractors and harvesting machinery
  • Proven experience of managing large production / harvesting teams
  • Excellent relationship and managerial skills
  • Ability to plan and organise own workload
  • Ability to manage a team
  • Ability to delegate
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to identify mistakes and correct them
