Information and Data Director

They are now looking for an experienced Data Protection Officer to be accountable for overall information and data exploitation and governance within the University, including both academic and professional services areas. This includes defining the strategic framework for robust governance of information and data to ensure effective utilisation, consistency, compliance and control. There is a need to ensure clarity and ensure that decisions across all areas are driven by relevant information.

You will manage the administrative compliance, records and information teams and be responsible for the University’s framework of principles, policies and controls relating to information, records and data. Working with senior managers, the Executive Board and Council members, you will help to establish vision and create a culture that treats information and data as cross-institution assets.

You will also be responsible for meeting all legislative requirements arising from the GDPR and other relevant legislation or regulations and monitoring the evolving compliance environment to ensure the University meets requirements whilst pursuing its goals. You will work with Institutional Resilience/Information Security, Heads of Department and other relevant colleagues to ensure that University data is kept secure and that sensitive data is managed, stored, accessed and curated accordingly.

Reporting directly into the Director of Knowledge and the University’s Head Librarian, the successful candidate will possess a professional qualification in a related area or equivalent with demonstrable experience in an information and data-focused leadership position. You will have experience managing and leading technical data/information management teams and familiarity with information/data governance and quality control. You don’t need to have come from the Higher Education sector however you will be expected to have the relevant professional body membership and to maintain a high degree of awareness of sectoral, legal and regulatory developments relating to the role. You must be also able to successfully manage budgets including staffing costs and be involved in influencing and directing as appropriate a wide range of data/information owners, specialists and users at different levels.
