IT Specialist, 2nd/3rd Line Support, Birmingham, To c£30,000

Global organisation seeks an IT Specialist to be based out of their Birmingham office.

Location: Birmingham, frequent travel to Cheshire and less frequently London.

THE ROLE

Providing 1st/2nd/3rd Line support of all Internal IT infrastructure, systems and networks across 3 sites. Role is more 2nd Line moving to 3rd line.

The majority of the company’s IT systems run on windows applications and standard windows support services are part of the day to day activities. The majority of employees can work from home and other locations via use of Microsoft remote desktop connections running on terminal servers. Many of the servers have recently migrated onto a clustered virtual infrastructure and so knowledge of RDP / RDC terminal server experience, VM Ware ESXi 4.1/5.5/6 experience and clustering knowledge is essential.

The role has a strong bias towards Windows server deployment and management to best practice standards, with network and firewall management and support (including client network support and firewall management).

The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of VPN’s, route based and policy based configurations to external clients and group offices.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS (3+ years’ experience)

  • VMware ESXi 4.1/5.5./6.0, clustering/SANS/vSANs
  • Veeam Backup and Replication
  • CCNA/CCNP skills or equivalent knowledge
  • ITIL Experience
  • Microsoft SQL Always on/DB genera knowledge
  • Windows Server management, including PowerShell scripting
  • Reverse Proxy / Load balancer knowledge
  • Team management skills

Client network support including staff on site at clients

Phone support on all IT related queries including out of hours support.

Maintaining 3rd party support contacts and liaising with them during faults (MIS,

COLT, BT, DELL and HP for example).

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Personable and enthusiastic. The role is, on occasions, client facing and the successful candidate should be commercially aware and able to communicate with others clearly in relation to technical matters
  • Flexible and willing to learn. The role is varied and provides new challenges on a daily basis.
  • Ability to align remotely, as the Competence Center Leaders are located overseas.
  • Leadership together with a strong team building aptitude are essential.
  • Willingness to travel - London and Cheshire. The successful candidate must be prepared to travel to these offices (at the company’s expense) when required.
  • Overseas travel may occasionally be required.
