Project Director

Site Based: Must have Health & NEC Contract experience

The Project Director is responsible for the commercial and operational activities of contract(s) to which he/she is assigned. To ensure the delivery of safe, high quality and profitable activities


Responsible to: Sector Director

Responsible for: Project Manager and site based operational staff

Cross Relationships

Internal Commercial, operational and central

External Customers and professional teams,statutory bodies and supply chain contractors


To ensure the contracts are delivered in a manner which enhances and maintains the company’s name and reputation for quality, and to ensure that the procedures identified within both the quality manual and health and safety policy are fully implemented.

To develop and improve the performance of staff under their control

To ensure the completion of contracts to the full satisfaction of the customer, within the programmed time.

To ensure profitable execution of work

To represent the company in dealing with customers or their agents, professional staff and supply chain contractors

To manage timely procurement of all key works packages

Tasks and Activities

Provide input into Pre-Construction Activities

Manage tasks assigned as part of the tender process

Provide support to the commercial process

Plan and develop the programme delivery

Co-ordinate Project Execution

Manage the delivery programme

Determine methods of working

Prepare short and long term programmes to meet completion dates

Manage Materials, Plant and Equipment

Set up and use systems to record the allocation, deployment, storage, servicing, maintenance and removal of plant and equipment

Assess Work Methods, Resources and Systems

Assess and summarise data to decide work methods

Prepare detailed plans and schedules

Monitor the effectiveness of methods/resources and systems used

Evaluate the quality and reliability of services and resources available.

Manage Heath, Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems

Manage the assessment and control of project risks

Specify and implement methods and procedures to manage project risks

Implement and maintain Health, Safety and Quality systems

Control Project Cost, Quality and Progress

Control project costs against agreed budgets

Control project progress against weekly and monthly production targets

Control project against company and customer quality standards

Meet scheduled completion dates for each stage of the project

Manage the Performance of Team and Individuals

Define teams responsibilities and limits of authority

Monitor and assess the performance of teams and individuals

Carry out comprehensive appraisal-assessment of job performance for all individuals under their control

Ensure operatives have relevant training/certification

Develop and Maintain Effective Working Relationships

Consult and discuss proposed activities with colleagues

Resolve disagreements as necessary

Give colleagues support and respect

Establish and maintain customer relations to encourage repeat business

  • NEC Experience, must be familiar with the Contract and have used it on multiple schemes in recent times.
  • Hospital build experience
  • Experience of front end tendering
  • Solid negotiator and influencer
  • Strong customer account management
  • Able to chair and lead meetings
  • Must be a natural leader and not just a delegator
  • Must be computer literate
  • Ideally familiar with Asta or Power Project planning software
  • Ideally Midlands based
