Purpose of the job

To contribute to the provision of Occupational Therapy Services within the Directorate of Adult Community and Housing Services through assessment of medical need for re-housing and by maximising housing options for applicants with health or disability needs

Specific Accountabilities

- To respond to requests for assessment in relation to re-housing and repairs affected by applicant/tenants complex health or disability needs
- To make recommendations as to the level of medical priority for re-housing based on an assessment of need relating to the applicants current property and taking account of other housing options or services that may be appropriate

- To make recommendations, based on assessed need for the provision of certain property types, adaptations and equipment
- To ensure that any equipment supplied is fitted and demonstrated safely and clients are instructed on it’s safe use

- To work in partnership with housing staff and outside agencies to explore housing solutions for individual applicants

- To ensure the maintenance of the Housing OT services in the absence of senior team members and with support from disability services where required
- To provide supervision to other team members where relevant and participate in peer supervision

- To contribute and take the lead on certain service developments where appropriate

- To participate the Housing Specification Core Group advising on the needs of people who have disabilities to assist with housing repairs meeting relevant home standards

- To work within the professional code of conduct for Occupational Therapists
- To keep up to date with professional developments in the fields of Occupational Therapy and Housing

- To maintain records and write reports in accordance with the Directorate’s policy and practice

- To undertake training as appropriate to the post

- To work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of customers and their carers

- To undertake other duties as appropriate to the post

- To be a committed team worker and participate in working towards targets and monitoring and evaluating the work of the directorate

- To operate within the Directorate’s stated Principles Polices and Guidelines including equal opportunities, Health and Safety and Complaints procedures

- This Job description is provided to assist the post holder to understand what his/her duties are and may be amended from time to time without change to the level of responsibility appropriate to the grade of the post.

Health & Safety: You must comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and affiliated regulations. You are also required to comply with the Council’s Health and Safety Policies and take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and of other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions.

Where the Council has a statutory duty with regard to health and safety you are required to cooperate with the Council and it’s managers and officers so far as is necessary to enable the Council to meet that duty.

This includes using equipment and substances in accordance with training and instruction and the reporting of serious dangers to your own or others safety.

As an employee you shall not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare.

You are required to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that persons under your control are aware of, and comply with, their statutory health and safety duties and those set out within Council policies.
